Supporting employees in their personal development with digital tools and from a single learning platform. That is Lidl’s goal. To make that happen, Lidl has implemented the Totara LMS. This offers employees a ‘mandatory’ as well as an ‘elective’ online training programme.
Lidl commits to self-guided learning
“How can we use smart tools to support our employees with their work-related needs and personal development during their time at Lidl?” Sophie Geerts Jaspers, Director HR Lidl Netherlands, has a clear vision on this. Her vision was to give employees more space and responsibility for their own development.
“With the Totara LMS, we have a solid foundation. The next steps are designing and implementing blended training programmes, including content creation. Leadership development and securing our leadership principles are the next topics that we will give shape to within the new concept.”
The concept: a personal online learning plan
Lidl supports employees in their personal development through a single online platform. The performance cycle provides insight into employees’ strengths and points for development. This forms the basis for each individual’s personal online learning plan. You can then use a wide range of learning resources to work on your personal development at your own pace and when it suits you best.
The development
Lidl wants to make it attractive for employees to develop themselves in a more ‘self-guided’ way. In addition, HR and L&D wanted to achieve a major boost in efficiency by being able to register, report and evaluate in a single environment. Lidl therefore chose the Totara Learning Management System (LMS) from UP learning. The learning environment is visually clear and attractive; your progress is transparent and you have a clear overview of your development path. All of this encourages employees to work on their own development. And it makes it easier for the manager to monitor the individual’s development and offer more targeted support.
Employees choose for themselves what suits their development
Together with Lidl, UP filled the environment with its own content and specific content from the Premium Learning Library*. Employees can choose from workshops, hundreds of e-learning resources and 800 e-books, ranging from management books and training courses for personal development to very practical ones on Excel or learning how to make presentations, for example.
“At Lidl, we work in a goal-oriented and results-oriented way. This means that we want to make progress quickly and UP learning was a good partner for us in this respect. It enabled us to create a full-fledged and attractive learning environment within three months that employees can use to improve the quality of their work and to take control of their own development.”
